Your hosts Richard and Helen spent last year running a house of welcome in the Howgill fells and before that spent three years working for the Iona Community at Iona Abbey, off the West coast of Scotland. Both have extensive experience in leading workshops and worship. Richard, who was the Prayer Circle co-ordinator at Iona Abbey, is currently concluding his two year new members programme to become a full Member of the Iona Community. Helen is an Associate Member.

Richard is a qualified teacher and craftsman, with training in theology and scripture study, and experience of giving the Ignatian spiritual exercises. He is particularly interested in the historical context of the scriptures, and in different methods of prayer. He is a wildlife photographer with a great interest in the nature around our beautiful home.His ability to work with craft materials in a creative and prayerful way opens a new dimension of prayerful meditation to those seeking a reatreat that offers something a little bit different.

Helen has many years experience of justice and peace work, including practical campaigning and a related course of scripture study and preaching. She is also interested in exploring the variety of ways to pray. She is a keen walker and can suggest or lead walks in the surrounding hills or river valleys.
